Explore Your Native Storylines

Every land has its storytellers. In New Mexico, we have a rich indigenous history, Hispanic settlers dating to the 1500's, and modern immigrants too. These histories are not always pretty, but they are chock full of storylines. You can follow them in the canyons, acequias and old stagecoach roads. You can follow them into forests, and to the tops of mountains. It's not uncommon to turn a corner and find a message scrawled there from someone who stepped foot in the same spot two-hundred years ago.

Knowing just a handful of your native storylines, and the land forms, animals and people that inhabit them, can lend a quick and easy framework in which to place your own stories. Tying your stories to the land, and the past, makes them come alive.
